Halloween costume

Butterfly costume for Boys

I asked my 3 year old son on what he wanted to be for Halloween. To my surprise, among all the characters he picked butterfly. I was relieved that he did not pick any complicated costume. But when I started searching for the costume I realized that there were no butterfly costumes for Boys. All the costumes were either a cute tutu dress with wings or some fairy wings. I started thinking if I have made a mistake by giving him the choice of picking his costume.

But as my last hope started looking at some google images for Boys butterfly costume and read some reviews. I found that there are many parents who had a hard time finding this costume for boys. So thought of sharing my experience as it might help someone else. It took time for me to find all the things. Once I did, it was very easy to put them together.

Here is what you need:

  • Any full black tshirt and pants. I picked black as it matched his wings, but its your choice.
  • White felt circle to give the polka dot effect on his dress. I bought one from here
  • Velcro strips like this one.
  • Butterfly wings that I bought here
  • Some mask and head band with antlers. I bought them at Party City.

Now it was time to put everything together. It was a fun weekend activity to do with my son. We stuck the white felt circles to his shirt and pants with velcro. I used velcro as I can remove them after Halloween and re-use his pants and shirts (Also I am not so good at stitiching ;) ). Voila his costume was ready. Sorry for poor image quality.

I was able to remove the velcro strips from his cotton tshirt and it did not leave a mark. But his pants were not cotton. It was kind of thermal material and I see the velcro strips glue has left a mark. Not sure if it will go away after couple of washes. So, I think cotton might be the best choice
