Quarantine activities for kids

Some activities to keep your little one engaged

It is hard to keep my 4 year old engaged in this quarantine period. Here are few thing I tried with him over a period of time. Though not entirely, it kept him engaged for a while so I could get some work done.

Stick man

My son likes to do some arts that involves cutting. He somehow feels that he is all grown up if I let him use the scissors. So we decided to make a stick man. Made some circle outlines in construction paper and gave it to him. He got busy immediately. He cut the circles to make faces and from there he did not need my help in drawing outlines for body, hands and legs. He started cutting them out by himself. He even made a hat for one stick man.

To take this to next level, we tried this with ice cream sticks. He also got to use glue gun for this activity which was very exciting for him.

Hand card

We wanted to surprise Ilan's dad. So we decided to make a greeting card. So Ilan traced my hand on to a construction paper and got to work. He cut two hands out of construction paper and then made a heart to attach both hands. Then he added a lovely message in the heart. This card was a pleasant surprise for his dad.

Legos

Ilan likes building stuff. He can play with this legos for quite a long time. This is one of the activity which he likes to do by himself.

Cake decoration

There is some pre-work needed for this. This task is ideal if you are already planning to bake something and have some left over frostings that you are going to throw away. Once when I baked carrot cake, I baked a very small cake for Ilan to decorate. Then I gave him the left over frosting from our cookie decorations, and he was playing with them for a while. And yes finally he added the sprinkles as nothing is complete without them. I let him have one small piece of this sugary treat. But would take out all these frostings before I give him the next piece.

Tower crash

If you have a lot of leftover cups from your last party, then you can try this. Ilan built a tower with the cups. And then used a ball to knock them over completely. Then start again.

Origami

This is an activity which he needs my help a lot. But this is a fun activity to do with him. I bough a simple origami kit from amazon. And we do one activity from this every day.

Sticker painting

I found this activity at Amazon. This activity he can sit and do by himself for at least 30 mins. This is good to keep him occupied if I have to attend some meetings
